Heritage House Renovation and First Floor Addition, Summer Hill

About This Project

This renovation and first floor addition in the heritage conservation zone of Summer Hill is the artful fusion of classic Federation and sleek, ultra – modern architecture. The front façade has been retained and imbues the house with Federation charm. Curved infinity edges and a grey and white palette feature in the additions to the house.

The ground floor renovation and addition contains a double garage which fronts on to a laneway at the back of the house, with glass bifold doors leading to the back garden. This versatile space can be used as a garage, rumpus room or entertaining room. Large skylights compensate for the Southern orientation of the living area.

At ground floor level, the front two bedrooms have been retained and renovated. The back of the house was demolished to make way for a kitchen, living, dining area and a main bathroom. Sliding doors allow for an ingress of light and a view of the back garden.

New steel and timber stairs lead to a first floor addition comprising a master bedroom and ensuite bathroom.

The house features engineered timber floors throughout and multiple skylights to maximise light in a narrow site.
